Innovation at mCare Digital

For some it’s a buzzword, for us innovation has always been part of our company DNA. How we work, think and approach personal safety has evolved over the years but we never lost sight of anticipating the changing safety needs of Australians.

Fourteen years of building what people needed next

We have been creating connected safety technology that is practical, intuitive and built for real life. From older people and people living with disability, through to carers, families, service providers and now Australian workplaces, our focus has always been the same: to help people feel safer, more supported and more connected when it matters most.

What began as a deeply personal mission has grown into an Australian assistive technology company with a long history of firsts in wearable personal safety, emergency response and lone worker support. That experience matters because safety technology is not just about devices. It is about trust, usability, reliability and understanding the real situations people face every day.

Innovation with purpose

For us, innovation means more than releasing new products or adding more features.

It means listening carefully to the people who rely on our technology: the person wearing the device, the family member checking in, the carer providing support, the organisation managing risk, and the worker who needs to know help is close by.

It also means asking better questions:

  • How can we make personal safety more mobile?
  • How can we help carers and support teams respond with confidence?
  • How can we reduce complexity in stressful moments?
  • How can we tailor safety solutions to different levels of risk?
  • How can we help organisations better protect their people?

The answers to these questions have shaped the way we design our products, software and customer experience. They continue to guide our work today as we expand our solutions across personal safety, assistive technology, staff safety and lone worker support.

Built as one connected ecosystem

One of mCare Digital’s key strengths is that we do not look at safety devices in isolation.

Our wearable alarms, duress solutions, mobile apps, monitoring options and ConnectiveCare® platform are designed to work together as one connected ecosystem.

This gives users, families, carers and organisations more visibility, more flexibility and more confidence.

For individuals, this can mean greater independence and peace of mind. For carers and families, it can mean better visibility and faster support. For workplaces, it can mean more practical ways to support staff safety, lone workers and employees working in higher-risk environments.

This ecosystem approach is what allows mCare Digital to design solutions that are not one-size-fits-all, but fit for purpose.

With a robust suite of APIs for seamless integration with your existing systems, white-labelling options and customised device packages for every level of risk management, mCare Digital offers the kind of flexibility that most competitors are unable to match.

Leading the way in workplace safety and lone worker support

Today, mCare Digital is applying 14 years of personal safety experience to one of the most important challenges facing Australian organisations: keeping staff safe while they work.

Many employees work alone, in the community, after hours, across changing locations, or in roles where risk can shift quickly. This includes healthcare workers, community support staff, social workers, disability and aged care workers, field teams, council workers, real estate professionals, utilities staff, security teams and many others. These roles do not all carry the same level of risk. That is why workplace safety technology should not be treated as a blanket solution.

mCare Digital supports organisations with staff safety and lone worker solutions that can be tailored to different job risk profiles, work environments and escalation needs.

From mobile duress apps and wearable duress buttons through to GPS visibility, Bluetooth beacons, monitoring pathways and centralised reporting, our solutions are designed to help organisations respond more confidently and support their duty of care.

With a long track record in personal emergency response, wearable safety technology and connected monitoring, mCare Digital is well equipped to help Australian workplaces adopt solutions that are practical, affordable and built for the way their teams actually work.

The History of Firsts

mCare Digital has always looked ahead to where safety technology needed to go next. Over the years, we have introduced a number of first-to-market features and innovations that helped shape what modern personal emergency response and assistive technology could become. These milestones reflect more than technical progress. They show a company culture built around foresight, usability and real-world care.

2013: Smartwatch personal alarm with up to six contacts

mCare Digital launched an early smartwatch personal alarm that allowed users to call up to six trusted contacts. This recognised that care often happens through a circle of support, not just one emergency contact.

2014: Speed dial contacts with photos

We introduced photo-based contacts to make calling for support more intuitive, especially for older people and users who benefit from clear visual cues.

2014: Custom reminders with acknowledgement

mCare Digital launched customised and unlimited medication, appointment and task reminders, with acknowledgement. This helped shift the device from being only an emergency response tool to becoming a proactive daily living support solution.

2014: Carer web portal and dedicated mobile app

We created a connected experience for carers, families and support teams, giving them greater visibility and helping them stay connected to the person using the device.

2015: GPS Smartsoles for dementia support

mCare Digital launched GPS Smartsoles in Australia for people living with dementia, offering a discreet way to support safety, mobility and dignity.

2016: Callback feature

We introduced a call back feature to help improve communication after an alert or missed connection.

2016 - 2021 CHOICE-recognised geo-fence feature

mCare Digital’s geo-fence feature was rated number one in the CHOICE personal alarms review across multiple years, demonstrating sustained performance and reliability.

2017: 4G smartwatch personal emergency alarm

As mobile networks evolved, mCare Digital launched a 4G smartwatch personal emergency alarm, helping improve connectivity and reliability for users on the go.

2020: Choice of 30 watch faces

We expanded personalisation options so users could choose a watch face that suited their preferences, lifestyle and visibility needs.

2021: Multilingual support

mCare Digital introduced multilingual support to help make personal safety technology more accessible to a wider range of users, families and communities.

2022: Customised charger and Bluetooth beacon

We continued improving the device experience with practical accessories and location-based technology to support usability and indoor awareness.

2022: Eldercare Innovation Award winner

mCare Digital was recognised as the winner of the Eldercare Innovation Award, reflecting the real-world impact of our assistive living technology.

Designed for real-world response

Some of mCare Digital’s most important innovations have come from understanding what happens in real life, not just in ideal conditions.

Fall detection is a good example. It needs to be accurate, adaptable and easy to manage. That is why mCare Digital developed wearable fall detection with adjustable sensitivity, voice commands and false alarm cancellation.

These features help reduce frustration, improve trust and make the technology more practical for everyday use.

The same thinking now applies to our staff safety solutions. A duress alarm or lone worker app needs to work in real environments, across different job roles and risk levels. It needs to be simple enough to use under pressure, flexible enough for different teams, and dependable enough for organisations to feel confident they are doing the right thing by their people.

Dementia friendly innovation

mCare Digital has also been recognised for its commitment to dementia-friendly design. The mCareWatch smartwatch became the first smartwatch to be Dementia Choices accredited – an important milestone that reflects our focus on usability, dignity and lived experience.

For people living with cognitive impairment, and for the families and professionals supporting them, thoughtful design can make a meaningful difference. It is another example of how mCare Digital approaches innovation: not by adding features for the sake of it, but by designing technology around real people, real needs and real moments of care.

Why experience matters

Safety technology is not something organisations can afford to get wrong. Whether someone is ageing at home, living with disability, working alone in the community, attending high-risk appointments, or travelling between job sites, the solution needs to be reliable, easy to use and backed by a team that understands the stakes.

mCare Digital brings 14 years of experience in personal emergency response, wearable safety technology, connected monitoring and assistive living solutions. That depth of experience helps us support individuals, families, providers and workplaces with solutions that are practical, affordable and fit for purpose.

For Australian organisations, it also means working with a local team that understands the importance of duty of care, workplace safety, compliance and scalable support across different roles and environments.

Innovation that stays human

Technology changes quickly. But the reason we innovate has stayed the same.

We believe safety technology should support independence, not take it away. It should give carers more confidence, not more complexity. It should help organisations protect their people in a practical and sustainable way. And it should give every user — whether at home, in the community or at work — greater reassurance that support is within reach.

That is the standard mCare Digital has worked towards for 14 years. And it is the standard that continues to guide where we go next.
